Updating my site recently, I decided to improve the navigation experience. Instead of the hamburger menu which expanded on mobile, I decided to reduce the amount of clicks and moving the menu to the bottom of the screen so it’s easier to navigate.
The older navigation took two clicks and shifted the page content as it expanded while also requiring the user to really extend their finger to the top of the phone which is not ideal.
The new navigation is on a dark background and fixed on the bottom of the browser for easy one click access and includes a home button.
The desktop navigation remains at the top. I also hide the home button as most users will click on my name on the left of the screen naturally.
